North of France – Cultural and educational programme.
- Day 1 : Musée Opale Sud :
- Depart by coach from your school for Folkestone.
- Channel crossing via Eurotunnel. Disembarkation in Coquelles.
- Picnic lunch (not included in the price).
- Depart for the Musée Opale Sud to see the collection of coins, pearls and various objects dating back to the Roman and Merovingian times.
- Workshops with qualified instructors.
- Depart by coach for your residential centre for dinner. Room allocation and full-board accommodation for four nights.
- Day 2 : French primary school, Ambleteuse, farm visit :
- Morning : depart the residential centre by coach for the local primary school to visit the French children you have been corresponding with : educational activities with questionnaires.
- Depart by coach for the museum of Ambleteuse to discover all the story of the Second World War.
- Picnic lunch.
- Afternoon : depart for Maresville to discover the farm : poultry, cattle and farming activities.
- A “goûter” will be served with products from the farm (chocolat chaud et tarte au sucre).
- Return to your residential centre for dinner.
- Day 3 : Clenleu, the crêperie and Musée de l’Abeille Opale :
- Morning : depart your residential centre by coach for Clenleu .
- In the farm, pupils will learn how to do traditional wheat plaiting and make bread.
- Lunch at the ‘crêperie’.
- Afternoon : depart Clenleu by coach to visit the « Musée de l’Abeille d’Opale ».
- Workshops. Depart the farm by coach and return to your residential centre for dinner.
- Day 4 : Primary school, snail farm and Nature and sea based activity :
- Morning : Depart your residential centre by coach for a second visit to the primary school to work in partnership with the French children : educational activities.
- Then depart by coach to discover the snail farm : video, visit of the farm and tasting.
- Lunch.
- Afternoon : depart by coach to Equihen Plage for a ‘Nature and sea based activity’.
- Return to your residential centre for dinner.
- Day 5 : Hypermarket and Natur’Pom :
- Morning : depart your residential centre by coach for shopping in the local hypermarket with language exercises.
- Picnic lunch.
- Afternoon : visit Natur’Pom, the organic apple farm.
- Make your own apple juice and leave with a bottle at the end of the visit.
- Embarkation and Channel crossing via Eurotunnel.
- Arrival in Folkestone and direct transfer to your school.
RESIDENTIAL CENTRES IN THE NORTH OF France
ETAPLES SUR MER :
Capital of the Pas-de-Calais canton with just over 11 000 inhabitants, Etaples sur Mer has a rich maritime tradition going back over 2000 years. Life in Etaples follows the rhythm of the tides. The fishing industry still employs over five hundred people whose ships are berthed in the nearby port of Boulogne. The residential centre “Le Flot” is open all the year round, and can house up to 65 guests.
MERLIMONT :
Known as the family resort of the Côte Opale, Merlimont has succeeded in maintaining its natural environment alongside modern urban facilities. The dunes of fine sand lie hidden behind the pine trees and under the beach grass. The residential centre “Les Argousiers” is in Merlimont by the Sea. It is available outside French school holiday periods and can take up to 94 guests.
STELLA MARIS :
Stella offers fine sandy beaches and high quality bathing facilities. Enjoy its invigorating climate and discover the seaside flora and fauna by exploring the surrounding sand dunes. The centre is open from the beginning of March to the end of November and can take up to 200 guests in en-suite rooms (W.C. shower and washbasin in the room).
BERCK SUR MER :
Known locally as « the town of kites », it hosts the international kite flying competition every year. With over fifteen thousand residents, Berck sur Mer is a lively and thriving town throughout the year. “Le Cottage des Dunes” residential centre is in the heart of the town. It has 178 beds and is open all the year round, except for the first two weeks in November.
LE PORTEL :
The seaside resort that faces the English coast, in the heart of the Côte Opale, Le Portel lies in the shelter of the port of nearby Boulogne. Its charm is in its pedestrian streets lined with shops, its bars and cafes, and its colourful market. Nausicaà provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the secrets of the sea. The Mont des Couppes residential centre is up on the cliffs, and is open all the year round. It can take up to 95 guests, housed in five separate single storey buildings.
